About Us

Who Is Mothers & More?

Our Mission
Mothers & More is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of mothers through support, education and advocacy. We address mothers' needs as individuals and members of society, and promote the value of all the work mothers do.

Serving over 7,500 mothers in the U.S. and beyond, Mothers & More is a non-profit membership organization that cares for the caregiver. We provide a nationwide network of local chapters for mothers who are – by choice or circumstance – altering their participation in the paid workplace over the course of their active parenting years. Our chapters are structured to support a mother as she navigates the challenges of her daily life - whether she is a full-time family caregiver or struggling to achieve a better balance between the demands of paid work and family care.

Through our chapters and other services, we provide opportunities for mothers to connect with one another in ways that assist them in developing their unique identities as women and help them move more confidently through the transitions that affect their family, work and life.

Mothers & More champions the value and necessity of all mothers’ work to our society - paid and unpaid, within and outside of the home. We strive to raise awareness about the fact that mothers live and work in a society that presents significant barriers to their ability to succeed as women, citizens, parents or participants in the workforce. By uniting mothers to act on their own behalf, we seek to eliminate policies, practices and attitudes that unfairly impact mothers as caregivers.

Some of our chapter activities include:

MOM'S ONLY
Evening Meetings
Our chapter a monthly general membership meeting. Our usual meeting is held on the second Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.  As of June 2007 we are meeting at the Oviedo YMCA.  Meeting topics cover personal growth, professional growth, consciousness raising, parenting issues, and much more!
Mom’s Night Out
At least one night a month it's Mom's turn to step out!  Whether we take in a movie, eat at a restaurant, attend a play, or just hang out, it gives all of the mothers in our group an opportunity to take a much-needed break.
Subgroups
Our chapter has many subgroups.  Some groups meet during the day and others meet in the evening.  Subgroups include:
- Book Club
- Cooking Club (couples also)
- Seasoned Moms (for Moms with school-aged children)
- H.O.O.T. O.W.L. (Husbands Out Of Town Or Working Late)

MOM and KIDS
Playgroups
Looking for a weekly scheduled play date for you and your child? We have playgroups to fit everyone's needs -- and if there isn't one, we'll create one! Organized playgroups range from infants to school-age children. Activities are planned around the age group of the children and range from member's homes, local parks, the Science Center, the zoo, local fire stations to Publix tours. Make a friend today, not only for your child but yourself as well!
Family Fun Days
These big (and small) events are planned for the entire family to participate! These events are popular and are well attended and provide a chance for all the dads to mingle. A sampling of events include the Fourth of July Picnic, Holiday Party, Pinochio's Marionette Theater, Semoran Skateway, and Green Meadows Farm.
Community Relations
Members donate their time to worthy causes such as the Lily House, the Breast Cancer Walk, Women's Shelter, adopted families during the holidays and back-to-school supply drives. The children's awareness is raised as they help their moms deliver the goods to the charities and participate in a worthy cause.

COUPLES
Couples Night Out
These planned events will ensure you get that "date night" scheduled into your calendar! These popular nights are a must for members and their husbands for a fun-filled evening. Activities range from a pleasurable dinner, the theater, darts and pool, bowling, themed parties and the Cooking Club.

Our national mission is based on the following core beliefs:
  • A mother is more than any single role she plays at any given point in her lifetime. She is entitled to fully explore and develop her identity as she chooses: as a woman, a citizen, a parent or an employee.
  • All the work mothers do — whether paid or unpaid - has social and economic value.
  • All women deserve recognition and support for their right to choose if and how to combine parenting and paid employment.
  • All mothers, all children and all families are unique. We respect the wisdom of each mother to decide how to care for her children, her family and herself.
  • Mothers have the right to fulfill their caregiving responsibilities without incurring social and economic penalties.
  • The transitions women make into and through motherhood are challenging and can be difficult.
  • Together, mothers are powerful.
